In a bid to promote environmental cleanliness and domestic tourism, Miss Tourism Uganda launched the “Let the Pearl Shine” campaign several years ago. This annual initiative focuses on cleaning various cities across the country and encourages Ugandans to refrain from littering.
This year’s campaign, serving as both a national sanitation effort and a domestic tourism promotion drive, was spearheaded by Mr. Ivan Lugya, the project coordinator of Miss Tourism. Lugya emphasized the importance of Ugandans exploring their own tourist destinations, urging them to visit places like the Uganda Museum, Zoo, and other attractions.
Kicking off from the iconic Independence Monument in Kampala, the Miss Tourism team traversed through densely populated areas, including bus terminals and markets like Owino, Kisseka, and Kisenyi, as well as taxi parks.
Since its inception, the campaign has expanded its reach to various regions such as Buganda, Tooro, Kigezi, Bunyoro, Teso, Rwenzori, Northern Uganda, and Ankole, among others, demonstrating its commitment to nationwide sanitation and tourism promotion efforts.
